CoolSculpting® employs a process known as Cryolipolysis. (“Cryo” = cold + “lipo” = fat cells + “lysis” = cell death and removal.) During treatment, stubborn fat deposits are subjected to controlled cooling.
The controlled cooling safely penetrates the skin. Subcutaneous fat cells begin to freeze. This ruptures the cell’s membrane. The ruptured fat cells are flagged for apoptosis –cell death and removal.
Over the passage of several weeks, the body’s immune system gathers the demolished fat cells. Frozen fat cells ultimately exit the body as waste. These fat cells cannot return or be replaced.
Our skin provides a protective barrier from the outside environments we are in. At times, it is our skin that can tell us it’s being affected by an outside irritant or that something more serious can be going on inside our body.
Rashes can be described as any sudden abnormal changes to the skin or a wide spread of skin lesions that appear on a certain area of the body or all over the body. There are many different types of rashes and causes associated with each type. Usually, they are minor and caused by some sort of skin irritation or inflammation in the body.
Rashes can appear as bumps, blotches, welts, and blisters in certain areas of the body or all over the entire body. Some of the most common variations in appearance and symptoms are:
The appearance of the rash will depend on your skin type and tone as well as what type of rash has been developed and why.
Contact dermatitis is a common rash and occurs when you experience an itchy, red, and inflamed reaction on your skin due to either an irritant reaction or an allergic reaction. Though it isn’t life-threatening or contagious, it can be really uncomfortable dealing with it and getting to the root cause of it.
Irritant contact dermatitis is the most common type and involves skin cells being damaged from an irritating substance. Some examples of this include:
Allergic contact dermatitis is a delayed allergic reaction that usually appears as a rash 1-3 days after the skin is exposed. The exposure triggers an inflammatory response in the immune system before symptoms appear on your skin. Common examples of this include:
Because of the delayed reaction, it can typically be harder to determine the root cause of the rash since there are thousands of different allergens to be ruled out.
Rashes can appear for many different reasons. At times, a rash could just be a sign that your skin has been exposed to an irritating substance or something you’re allergic to. In other situations, it could be a sign that a more serious condition is going on.
Rashes could potentially occur with the following:
In some cases, your body may react to a medication you’re taking. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare and severe red rash that can occur all over the body in response to medication. It can cause the skin to peel away and leave large areas of tissue oozing like you would with a severe burn. It’s important to seek medical attention if you experience this or many other rashes you may be experiencing.
Many rashes are often a minor, isolated issue that may go away within a few days and treatment at home. If the rash doesn’t go away, or maybe your at-home treatment is irritating the rash, you should seek help from a board-certified dermatologist or medical doctor.
Some professions can make you more prone to contact dermatitis– healthcare workers, cosmetologists, and mechanics for example, handle harsh chemicals and have to routinely scrub their hands. If you are having trouble on a daily basis with this, it’s important to work with a board-certified dermatologist on a care plan that can allow you to do your job more comfortably.
Experiencing contact dermatitis on a regular basis can be daunting, and if the condition doesn’t heal well or isn’t treated adequately, you could experience blisters, trouble sleeping, and other issues that can negatively affect your quality of life. Common treatment approaches include oral and topical steroids, as well as injections if needed.
Although most rashes are not a serious threat, there are rare occurrences where the rash could be signaling that a more threatening condition is happening. If you notice any of the following symptoms, it’s important to seek medical help as soon as you can:
Rashes can come in many forms and for many different reasons. They can sometimes take days or weeks to heal properly. Treating the rash on your own can often be a guessing game and never getting to the root cause of why the skin reaction is happening. Our team at DermExperts offers a comfortable environment where we can help you with proper diagnosis and treatment approaches to help you with any condition you may be experiencing.
